Ki-o-Rahi

Lorraine Dunn —

Kī-o-rahi is a traditional Māori ball game played on a circular field, combining elements of tag, rugby, and handball. Two teams, compete to score points by touching, passing, and kicking a small ball (kī) while navigating zones marked by cones. The game is fast-paced and strategic, rooted in Māori legend and storytelling, making it both a cultural and athletic experience.

Kī-o-rahi is a new sport to CBHS, only being picked up in the last couple of years. The school competes in the Waitaha Regional competitions for both Senior and Junior Kī-o-rahi.

Senior competitions take place in Term 1.

Junior competitions take place in Term 4.

While there is no official league that takes place outside of competition, CBHS does have connections to Waihora Kī-o-rahi which takes place on Tuesday evenings.
