Academic attainment remains a core priority for CBHS and sits at the centre of our purpose as a place of learning. Overall attainment across NCEA Levels 1–3 remains strong and consistent over time. In 2025, the pass rates were:

Level 1 - 85%

Level 2 - 83%

Level 3 -78%

These (enrolment based) outcomes reflect the sustained effort of our boys and the professional commitment of staff to high expectations and disciplined learning.

A particular strength in the data, is achievement in the NCEA literacy and numeracy co-requisites. Success rates across Years 10–12 are high and continue to improve. Literacy and numeracy underpin all learning pathways, whether boys progress to further study, trades training, or employment, and these results confirm the rigour and integrity of our curriculum design and assessment practices.

Alongside overall achievement, we closely review the progress and achievement of groups of students. Māori achievement across NCEA Levels 1–3 is well above national averages. At the same time, Māori attainment remains below the achievement rates of the school as a whole. Ensuring that our Māori boys succeed academically is an ongoing priority for the school, and this data informs our teaching.

Our assessment philosophy is intentionally rigorous, authentic, and fair. We do not narrow courses or lower standards to chase results.

Alongside maintaining strong overall attainment, a key focus for the school is lifting Merit and Excellence endorsement rates for all students. This reflects our commitment to academic depth, intellectual challenge, and high aspiration.
