In the Auckland University Youth 2000 Survey 38% of CBHS students reported binge drinking in the preceding four weeks and 33% reported having been driven by someone who had been drinking.

This month we take a look into the exciting, experiential education experiences some students get up to in the Outdoor Education programmes.

According to Māori mythology, the sun god, Tama-nui-te-rā, had two wives, the Summer Maid, Hine-raumati, and the Winter Maid, Hine-takurua. Haka originated in the coming of Hine-raumati, whose presence on still hot days was revealed in a quivering appearance in the air. This was the haka of Tāne-rore, the son of Hine-raumati and Tama-nui-te-rā.

The Art Department has been a hive of activity lately with a number of Year 9 & 10 students finishing pieces of work.

The Hostel turns 100 next year and to celebrate we are planning an event over Labour Weekend 2017 for all former boarders. 

From Term 4 the CBHS bike stands will no longer be at the eastern end of the school. They will be situated on the tennis courts. Please use the large gate on Tui Street to access the bike stands and leave via the Kahu Road gate.

Where there are skill shortages there can be great opportunities. A skill shortage exists when there aren’t enough people with the right skills to meet demand. If key industries aren’t able to find people with the skills to help them innovate and grow, there’s a negative effect on productivity and the economy.
