Strengthening Practice Through Collaboration: East/Central Hub Math PLD

Clara Fleming —

On Monday 19 May, Years 0–8 teachers from the East/Central Hub attended a mathematics hui facilitated by Sarah Cobb from Learning Solutions. This PLD marked the second day of a four-part series designed to support teachers in implementing the refreshed Mathematics and Statistics curriculum.

The professional learning to date has focused on the structure of the updated curriculum, effective planning at all levels and explicit teaching practices. A strong emphasis was placed on aligning teaching with the progress outcomes, ensuring all ākonga are supported to access rich mathematical learning aligned with their year level.

This PLD was a valuable opportunity for kaiako to collaborate across schools, share ideas and engage in meaningful professional dialogue. The sessions provided space for teachers to reflect on current practice and explore practical strategies to support student learning in mathematics.

Two further PLD days are scheduled for 2026, which will continue to build on this work with a focus on Geometry, Algebra, Statistics and Probability.
