Week 4 Fun in the Sun!
School Pool
We are so grateful to have a school pool here at kura. It is an amazing resource to have. We know that many schools around the motu have needed to make the decision to close their pools due to financial restraints, so are incredibly grateful to the Board of Trustees who are committed to keeping ours open.
Each class has two focussed swimming lessons per week. Thank you for helping your tamaiti to be organised for this! We expect that all children come ready to join in with this important part of our curriculum. If for any reason your child is not able to swim, please contact your child's teacher to let them know.
At lunchtimes, children in Year 5 & 6 (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and Year 3 & 4 (Tuesday and Thursday) have the opportunity to have a fun lunchtime swim. On days like today, it is certainly enjoyed by a large number of children!
Communication
Many thanks to the large number of people who have already signed up to our new Hero app. We have seen that a lot of people are taking advantage of the easy way of communicating if your child is going to be absent from kura.
If you haven't yet downloaded this app, we encourage you to do this today. The Hero App can be downloaded from the APP Store or Google Play Store through the search ‘Hero by Linc Ed’. Once downloaded, click on new user, add in your email address and follow the prompts.
If, for any reason, you are not able to login, please contact the school office to ensure that we have your correct email address.
Tuku Iho
At the beginning of the year, CNS teachers undertook a day of professional development learning about Mana Potential. We learned about the power of making connections and the concept that we are a small yet very important part of a much bigger picture. Last week at our staff meeting we designed our own personal 'Tuku Iho' posters to be displayed in the school foyer. These posters show the people, places and groups that are important to us.
Over the next few weeks, tamariki across the school will be designing their own Tuku Iho posters. Teachers will be asking for you to send photos along to school of people, places and groups that are important to your child. This would be a great conversation to have at home - who are the people, places and groups that are important to your child?
Tryathlon
Please note that there has been a slight change to the senior route for the Tryathlon. Matua Kane has updated the map in the Tryathlon post for your reference.
Jewellery
We have seen a large increase in the number of children who are wearing large dangly earrings to kura. As pretty as they are, there are so many things that they can get caught on in the course of a day. We ask that if children are wearing earrings that it is only stud earrings that can't get caught on anything.
Easter
Easter often falls within the first school holidays, but this year it doesn't! You will have seen on our Term Dates that when Easter falls in the term time, schools are also closed on the Tuesday following Easter. We often get asked about this - it is not a decision that is made by us, but it is in the Education Act legislation dating back to the 1950's. This means that school will be closed from Friday 29th March - Tuesday 2nd April.
