National Triathlon Championships

Kara Boys —

CSC was well represented at the recent NZ Triathlon Championships held in Glendhu Bay, Wanaka.

We stayed the night at the camping ground and were up early to relax the nerves. In some very impressive fields from all over the country we raced our hearts out. In the U14 Mixed teams we had Emma Cubbit have an amazing swim coming out of the water in second place, Benson Boys was then passed the timing chip and pulled us into first place. Hunter Newell finished well in a strong run keeping the Gold medal! It was an excellent result for these three promising athletes.

Next up we had our U16 team, who were now trying to get a medal like the juniors. Molly Henderson had swam so well in a busy and freezing Lake Wanaka, Jackson Newell then jumped on the road bike for his leg. It was a fast time for Jackson and Declan Dudin knew if he could pull back the JHC runner we won another Gold! Declan timed his run perfectly and another team placed Gold!

The conditions were perfect by late afternoon when our senior team started. Tessa Cubbitt started the u19 team with a quick swim, around alot of orange cones, Oliver White rode a very strong league pulling us back into medal contention, and our very own Deputy Head Boy, Fergus Watson had the legs to get us another gold medal! We could not believe it! Thanks to Natasha Newell and Kara Boys for staying with us at Glendhu Bay, and to Lisa Henderson and Carly Anderson for supporting us on the day.
