Girl's Festival

Kate Crowe & Ruby-May Ilsey-Slape —

On Tuesday the 31st of May, a few girls including us were lucky enough to attend the girls-only festival at the ILT Stadium in Invercargill.

The purpose of this awesome event was to show that there are many different fun ways to do exercise and we did some activities we hadn’t even heard of or tried before so it was so fun experiencing new things!

We did 6 different 35-minute activities throughout the day - starting with soccer with different ways to play like only being able to use a pool noodle to get the ball into the goal or playing with a giant yoga ball. It was so fun and challenging!

Then we moved on to my personal favourite, wheelchair basketball! We had no idea this was even a thing until then and it was super fun and different from what we were expecting. We raced around the court on these special wheelchairs that allowed us to go really fast and turn quickly and sharply. It was definitely a lot harder than normal basketball but an awesome experience!

Next, we were off to boxfit, another new one for us, where we did lots of fast-paced punching and moving sequences and by the end, I think we were all pretty puffed! Then after a quick lunch break, we got back into it and went to the golf section and worked on our swings, trying to hit the balls onto the targets on the wall with some success.

Next, we went and played some cricket and started with some throwing games then played a mini-game of cricket. Finally, we went to our last activity, Dance! We had such a fun and energetic instructor who made it very entertaining as we learned the dance. Overall it was such an amazing experience and we had so much fun trying new things! Huge thanks to Mrs Ballantyne for organising this opportunity and to Mrs Cowie for spending the day with us.
