Absences

Brendon Wallace —

If your child is absent from school, there are several ways in which you can advise the office if your child is absent for the whole day, late to school or leaving early.

Telephone, app and email messages are checked throughout the day.

If we haven't heard from a parent or caregiver by 9.15 am and the student is marked absent from class, we then send a text and email to caregivers advising of the absence and asking for confirmation.

We ask that caregivers respond promptly so we can follow up on any unexplained absences to ensure student safety. Sometimes students are at school but not in class, leading to a notification being sent. We appreciate your patience in these cases as we would always rather send a notification to be sure that all students are accounted for.

If students are arriving late or leaving early, please advise the office. If leaving early, a signed note from a caregiver is fine but texts are not accepted. All students arriving late or leaving early need to sign in/out at the office and we must hear from a caregiver before they leave the premises. Caregivers can always email appointments or changes to absences@csc.school.nz .These messages are regularly checked.

If your child has been absent for any period that has been coded as unexplained or explained but unjustified, you will receive an email detailing the absence for your information. We follow Ministry of Education Attendance Code Guidance for coding purposes, (attached).

In all instances, student safety is our paramount concern.
