A Word From Our Principal

Grant Dick —

Returning to some normality has been an adventure ...

We began on a smoother trajectory than the previous term, and while there have been a few bumps along the way, we have managed to open up once again to the many activities and events that had been closed down to our students over the past two years.

It was great to have our Rock Quest band performing and also our Show Quest team shine on stage at recent competitions. Our sports teams went to Dunstan High School this week for our annual inter school exchange, where we were fortunate to come out on top 6-5. Congratulations to all those competing and thanks to those that helped with the trip and managing the teams. We also acknowledge the huge spectator support that arrived to cheer on our teams, thank you for making the effort.

Staff appreciated the opportunity this term to spend a day with Kathryn Burkett - she gave great insight into how our brains work, how we can work better to tune in the adolescent brain and also helped us to reflect on ourselves and how we work best together. Kathryn has a regular podcast with Pio Terei called ‘I’ve Got Questions’ This is entertaining, informative and is highly recommended.

Andrea Beggs, our Sports Coordinator, has been nominated for the Unsung Hero People's Choice Award for the upcoming Southland Sports Awards. The article is in the link below - we are biased,  but believe she is worthy of this award! Well done Andrea - you provide endless opportunities for our students, support our coaches and managers, and give so much time to sport at CSC.

Unsung Hero, People's Choice Award

Featured in this newsletter is an article outlining the work we are doing around investigating and reviewing the way we deliver our teaching and learning. I recently travelled to Christchurch with our Steering Committee to visit schools, talk with School Leaders and also work with a company called Leadership Lab. I encourage you to have a read of the article as there are exciting prospects on the horizon and we are wanting to both inform our community and also collect feedback along the way.

Once again we are nearing Open Night season. I am currently visiting with our neighbouring schools and talking to Year 8 students in preparation for our Open Night which is on Thursday 28th July at 7pm.

Thank you for the term, we trust our students will have a well earned break over the holidays.
