Senior A Netball Team
The Senior A Netball Team travelled to Timaru on Sunday 28 August to compete in the SISS Netball tournament.
The team were very excited to finally get to attend this tournament after two disappointing years of cancellations due to Covid. The team knew it was going to be a tough first two days as we were in a very strong pool of four teams including St Margaret's and Cashmere Colleges from Christchurch and James Hargest College.
On Day 1 we went down to Cashmere 19 - 39 in the morning, but bounced back to beat James Hargest 31-24. Day 2 saw us come up against a very slick St Margaret's team, who went on to win the entire tournament - where we lost 59-15. This put us into the lower 16 teams of the A Grade.
We had a great next three games, winning convincingly against Kaiapoi HS (40-33), Nayland College (41-33) and Ashburton College (43-28). The final day saw us lose to Taieri College (33-24) and Geraldine High School (33-27) to finish 20th in the A grade competition. This is a great achievement from the girls to finish in the top 20 secondary schools in the South Island, many of whom have a very large pool of players to choose from.
A huge thanks to coach Diane Newton for her years of service to the netball team and to Megan Manson for being such an organised and caring manager and camp mum.
