CSC Hall Revitalised!
After a significant period of wear, the hall floor has been resurfaced and it looks amazing!
Over the recent holidays, contractors came in and transformed the school hall floor which has lifted the space incredibly. Even the experienced wood flooring contractors were impressed with the depth of colour and are excited about the final product.
We talk to students often about the legacy of CSC, and the hall floor certainly told a story - every scuff, scratch and sign of wear was put there by a student, staff member or someone from our community. Each of these would have been connected to an activity - getting ready for assembly, exams, movie nights, dinners, productions to name a few. No doubt some wear can be attributed to some out of the box events over the years as well!
While these stories are rich and part of the tapestry of CSC, overall the floor just needed a bit of a refresh.
Ironically, we have also purchased temporary carpet tiles that can be laid out in the Gym and the Hall for any occasion. We hope that these will create an added layer of class to both spaces, which will widen the potential uses for the Hall and Gym. They will also hopefully add further benefits to current uses - for example parent teacher interviews, exams and prizegivings. One consistent piece of feedback from parent teacher interviews is the noise in the Hall, which creates a buzz but also can be overwhelming and make conversation difficult. With carpet in the Hall for this event, we hope to keep the buzz but make it easier to have a conversation!
Thank you to the Property Committee for the investment in both the Hall resurfacing and the carpet tiles, and to Murray Keane (Murray Keane Contracting) and Joefi (J's Floor Sanding) for the work over the holidays.
We have been discussing the history of the hall floor and are interested in anyone who can provide further information - some staff vaguely recall the floor being resurfaced once since CSC opened. We would love to know for sure, if anyone has information please send this to brendonw@csc.school.nz
