2022 Highlanders Under 15 Girls Rugby Tournament

Olivia Montgomery —

On Friday the 2nd of September a team of Year 9,10 and 11 girls set off in a van to Mosgiel for a fun day of Under 15 10’s girls rugby games.

With the early start we had many tired but excited girls getting more and more excited the closer we got to Mosgiel. A couple of food and toilet stops later we arrived at the Taieri Rugby Club in Mosgiel. All set up and ready to go, the girls were all getting very hyped. Our first game at 10.30 was against St Peters which we ended up winning 31-0. We had our second game not long after against St Hilda’s and we had another awesome win 26-10. Then we had our third game which we knew would be our biggest competition and after a really tough game we came out with a tie 19-19 to Otago Girls.

After a nice long lunch break we were into our fourth game playing South Otago and had yet another massive win 46-0 which left us all very tired but very excited to be playing in the finals against Otago Girls. After some game plan and lollies we were all pumped for our last game of rugby for the day. After a tough and physical game we ended up winning 19-5. Everyone was very very excited to have just won the 2022 Highlanders Under 15 Girls Rugby Tournament. After our finals both us and Otago Girls were called together for a little prizegiving and afternoon tea. After a great day of rugby Olivia Gill and Hannah Norris were named MVP’s for the day and Olivia Montgomery was awarded the Sportsmanship Award. The team received the champions shield. After saying our thank you's and getting our photos we packed up and headed for home. Music was blasting and the girls were all pumped. It was going to be a very loud and fun ride home we had all thought although most of us ended up sleeping! Once we reached Gore everyone was awake and we headed in for some well-deserved dinner and McDonalds.

We would like to say a massive thank you to our coaches Mr Brinkworth, Mrs Cowie, Mr Ruwhiu and manager George Van der Poel for making this day out possible and just for being awesome!!!
