IN THE SHARKTANK
Flipper the self flipping fry pan, Aquasafe the locator beacon life vest, Biobait biodegradable fishing lures, and Hot on The Spot the small thermos that works like a microwave. These are just a few of the new product ideas that Year 11 Shark Tank students pitched to the “Sharks” last week.
The two math based classes have been working throughout semester one to come up with a new product idea to meet a gap in the market. They have developed a business plan, refined marketing strategies, created budgets, forecast profit and sales data, designed surveys and analysed the results.
The culmination of their work was their product pitch to some of our local business owners and operators who kindly volunteered their time to come in and be our “Sharks”. They grilled our young business hopefuls with some great questions and were impressed with the ideas and work the students had put in.
Congratulations to the overall winners, Ally Winch, Olly Gill, Charlie Forde and, Junior Gordon. Ally’s product was Adapticase, a protective phone case with an inbuilt screen that you can upload your own pictures and photos so you always have a personalised look. Olly, Charlie, and Junior created Chew Flakes, an edible food wrapper that reduces packaging waste.
Our thanks to Sue Shaw, Rayleen Young, Chris Brand, Sasha Hunter and McKenzie Hunter for being such great Sharks. Your time, enthusiasm and knowledge is appreciated.
