Peak to Peak Multisport Event

Alicia Harrison —

On a beautifully sunny Saturday 2nd September, five teams of outstanding young athletes competed in the annual Peak to Peak Multisport Event in Queenstown.

There were six gruelling disciplines as competitors made their way, relay-style from the top of The Remarkables Ski Field to the top of Coronet Peak Ski Field. The stages involved a speedy ski or snowboard, a hair-raising 17 km downhill mountain bike on The Remarkables access road, a chilly 7 km paddle across Lake Wakatipu in a tandem kayak, a hilly 9 km run through Queenstown, followed by an exhausting 9 km cycle up the Coronet Peak access road.

We achieved some outstanding results, with all teams completing the whole event. Two teams placed first in their categories, as well as two more teams gaining a second place and a third place. Further details of these achievements are below.

We’d love to say a special thank you to all the parents, teachers and community support we had at the event, without which it wouldn’t have been possible! Thank you Mrs Boys, Mr. Meechang, Mr. Wallace, Mr. Tree, Miss Harrison, Mrs Laffey, Ms Marshall, Mr. and Mrs Dolan, Mr. and Mrs Scott, Mr. and Mrs Jukes, Mr. and Mrs Hammond and Mr. Perrin for their support, jumping in for the paddle and logistics! Also a special mention to Miss Millie Wallace for joining one of our teams as a skier.

While the athletes were exhausted by the end of their eventful day, they were thrilled with their massive achievement and are keen to give it a go again next year!
