Volleyball Success!

Annabelle Kelley —

This past weekend (17-19 March), three of our Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Wairoa Volleyball teams competed over three days in the Canterbury Volleyball Championship.

A non-disrupted Canterbury Championship has been long awaited for our teams after the past couple of years have been impacted by not being able to have spectators as well as having the championship postponed on multiple occasions, so we were all really lucky to have had this incredible opportunity.

All of our teams had great success over the tournament.

Our Senior C team, coached by Ms Ainsworth, pulled off an awesome bronze medal in Division 2.

Our Senior B team, coached by Molly Newman and Mr Bilsbury, managed to finish up with a stellar 8th place in Division 1.

Our Senior A team, coached by Mr Norton, came together to get a chance to showcase their talent in the finals against a fierce St. Margaret’s College side. After a nail biting 5 sets of grit, we pulled off the win!

Three of our girls were recognized by being named in the 2023 Tournament team, Lily Spark, Joanna MacAskill and the tournament MVP and our captain, Angela Te Anu Ruepena.  We owe a massive credit to our coaches, managers and dedicated parents, friends and family who have supported us throughout our journey. A massive mihi to The Canterbury Volleyball Association for yet another amazing tournament.

Our Senior A team is headed up to Palmerston North this weekend for the New Zealand National Secondary Schools tournament, we are looking forward to it.

Bring on Nationals!
