Rowing Regatta

Catherine McDermott —

On 10-12 March, the SISS Rowing Regatta was held. Christchurch Girls' High / Te Kura o Hine Waiora took a strong team of 62 rowers.

The rowers raced in heats on Friday and Saturday morning and then in the finals on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.  All the rowers demonstrated how much they had improved over the season which was fantastic to see. Not everyone crossed the line to win a medal but the rowers were all winners in the sense they finished the season holding their heads up high, rowing had improved another step, resilience was demonstrated and some races were the best crews had had all season.

We have never had a season like it down in Twizel where all four regattas had perfect conditions and very minimal delays over the whole season.

I wish to thank all of the coaches for their hard work, the many parent helpers who helped at camps, regattas and on the committee, in particular Katrina Joseph who has tirelessly given up a lot of her time to be Chair of Rowing and to the rowers who have done the hardest work of all.

The results from the South Island Secondary Schools regatta were:
