Choral Showcase A Fabulous Evening

Jenny Morrison, Cantrices Director —

Cantrices hosted Rangi Ruru's top auditioned choir, Resolutions, for a choral showcase performance on Monday night.

Both choirs performed a variety of music from different styles and cultures as a preview of their upcoming national festival performances. They sung works from Canada, France, Bulgaria, Russia, the United States, and New Zealand, spanning a time frame of about 600 years. In addition to CGHS staff and parents, Cantrices was pleased to welcome director Helen Charlton, pianist Keiko Hashimoto, Head of Music Janet Kingsbury, and Rangi Ruru staff and parents, as well as the New Zealand Choral Federation Canterbury and West Coast Chair and Big Sing Co-ordinator Rosemary Fisher. It was incredible to have such support from the wider community, and it was a great start in fostering a supportive and collegial relationship between the two choirs.

Cantrices and Resolutions are both proud to be representing Christchurch at the Big Sing National Finale in Dunedin next week, where they will be performing as two of the top 24 secondary school choirs from across New Zealand. We wish them the best of luck with what is an incredible opportunity and a significant achievement.
