ANJA NAUGTON, LEARNING ENHANCEMENT TEACHER — Sep 25, 2019

Last Friday six students travelled to Queenstown to compete in this year’s Aerobics Nationals. Coaches Emma Patterson and Laura Patient had worked hard to prepare Katie Ingram, Jade Cotter, Courtney Hillyer and Claudia Wright for this competitive event.

We left Christchurch early on Friday, had a stop in Fairlie for lunch and a great photo opportunity with perfect views of Mount Aoraki.

On Saturday, first up were Katie and Jade, followed by Claudia and Courtney later on that afternoon. Katie and Claudia qualified for finals in their respective categories which were to be held on Sunday.

The girls clearly thought that the pressure of competing at national level wasn’t quite enough, so decided to scare themselves silly at the `Fear Factory’.

We made our way back to the events centre after a leisurely morning on Sunday, where Katie and Claudia both performed beautifully in the finals. The standard was incredibly high, and Katie came in 6th place and Claudia in 5th in their categories. All our girls went on stage to represent Christchurch Girls' High School - Te Kura o Hine Waiora with their ‘round up’ routine before the finals started in the afternoon - it was lovely to watch.
