Success At Netball Tournaments

Amber Houston & Hannah Sherwood, Co-sports Leaders of Netball —

Tournament week was an extremely successful one for CGHS netballers.

Due to Covid, the annual South Island tournaments were all cancelled, with regional tournaments taking their place.

To kick off the successes, our Senior A team placed 3rd equal in the A grade Christchurch based tournament, drawing with Villa Maria A, 28 all in a nail biting final. Our Senior B team ended up going into extra time in their final, coming away with a 29-27 win against Avonside A, and also taking out the 3rd place in the B grade.

The next day the Junior tournament began at Hagley courts and our junior teams had their first hit outs, blowing the other teams off the court, easing their way into play offs. The 10 A team came away with a 29-20 win against STAC in their final, taking the first place title! Our year 9 A  team hustled in their final but unfortunately went down to STAC, however we are immensely proud of their 2nd place!

With all four teams placing within the top three of their respective grades, it is fair to say that we had great success. It was awesome to have a couple of days of competition against other Christchurch schools as well as a few from around Canterbury/South Canterbury, given the current circumstances. It also proved a great value staying together as teams. The Senior A, year 9 A and year 10 A teams all stayed at a motel on Bealey Avenue and enjoyed team bonding activities and a chance to relax together.

Well done to all teams. Enjoy the remainder of the season.
