Open Water Swimming

Three Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora have competed in the Open Water Swimming events over the past summer season. They have achieved some fantastic results and travelled throughout New Zealand to compete.

Holly Smith, Rory Gordon and  Jessie Smith helped Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora to be named as the top school at South Island Secondary Schools and 4th Nationally. 

 Here are their results:

SI Secondary Schools 

Holly Smith 16-19 years

  • 1st 500m
  • 2nd 3.5km

Rory Gordon 14-19yrs

  •  1st 1km
  •  1st 3.5kms

Jessie Smith 14-15 years

  • 2nd 500m3rd 3.5km

NZ Secondary Schools

 Holly Smith  16-19 years

  • 4th 500m
  • 7th 3.5km

Rory Gordon 14-19yrs

  • 8th 1km
  • 6 th 3.5kms
  • 3rd Legend of the Lake Amphibian (Open Women)

Jessie Smith 14-15 years

  • 7th 500m17th 3.5km

NZ Open Water Champs

  •  3rd 7.5km race 16-17 year age group
  •  5th 7.5km Open Age

Jessie and Holly then combined with their brothers to finish 5th in the 4 x 1km relay in the Open Age Group at the NZ Open Water Champs.

Holly has subsequently been named in the NZ Junior Open Water team to participate in a distance training camp in October and then, in light of the cancelled World Junior Open Water event, she will travel with the NZ team to compete in the NSW Open in December of this year.
