Physics / Ahupūngao - Level 2

CGHS —

Discover the sheer power of mechanics, unleash the electrifying potential of electricity, and venture into the heart of matter with nuclear physics, unravelling the forces that bind atomic nuclei and power the stars 🌟. Level 2 Physics will ignite your passion and propel you towards an awe-inspiring future.

Qualification: NCEA Level 2

Entry requirements: Students are expected to have passed Level 1 Mechanics, acceptance into General Math at level 2 would also be useful. Entry is at the discretion of the HOD Physics.

Content/Skills: The Year 12 Physics course includes 4 topics: Mechanics (external 6 credits), Electricity + Electromagnetism (external 6 credits) and Atomic + Nuclear Physics (Internal 3 credits), Mechanics based internal assessment (internal 3 credits).

Field Trip: University of Canterbury Radioactivity workshop - required for the Atomic and Nuclear Physics Internal assessment.

Course Costs:

Please be aware that this course has associated costs. By selecting this course you will be requested to make contributions connected to its delivery.

These costs are approximately $25 for a workbook.

Assessment:

2 Internal Achievement Standards worth 6 credits

2 External Achievement Standards worth 12

Where does it lead? With Level 2 Physics you will have a great base understanding of the subject which will be useful for Health Sciences. Continuing on to Level 3 Physics will give you the required level of understanding for the first-year Physics papers in both Engineering and Health Science tertiary education.
