Last night we celebrated our inaugral Matariki Kapa haka event. It was a spectacular evening where 4 schools had the opportunity to come together and celebrate Matariki through stunning Kapa haka performances.

The gym was packed to capactiy with nearly 600 whānau and 300 ākonga. We were treated to items from Wairarapa Cobham Intermediate School, Paparoa Street School, Heaton Normal Intermediate School and our very own Te Kura O Hine Waiora rōpū. Our MC’s for the evening were our very own Whaea Grace and Whaea Bree. The evening involved beautiful waiata, haka, kēmu and a Matariki quiz. We hope to continue this event anually, as we see more schools come together to celebrate Matariki through Kapa haka.

A message from our Leader of Kapa haka – Sophia Smith

Mānawatia a Matariki

A night to remember to say the least! I am grateful for the support from our kaiako, whānau and ākonga. It was truly amazing to see the vision of our students come to life. All the hard mahi over the past term most definitely paid off and I couldn’t be more proud of our girls!  Seeing 4 schools of completely different ages come together for one purpose was so special and was the ultimate reason we wanted this event to happen, to see tamariki and rangatahi performing their best! My heart is full!
