1st XI Hockey Team Federation Cup

Harriet Caseley —

Over winter tournament week our Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora 1st XI team stayed in Christchurch and played in the 2023 Federation Cup.

The team started off with a tough first game, coming away with a loss against St Hilda’s. However, they kept improving throughout the week and finished top in their pool, with wins over St Paul’s, Hamilton Girls’, and New Plymouth Girls’. This meant that the team crossed over with St Margaret’s, another Christchurch School who they had previously lost to during the season. The girls really stepped up in this game and came away with a win placing them in the top 4 in New Zealand!!!!!

In the semifinal the team played St Cuthbert’s College, the eventual tournament winners, which was a real battle and a 3 – 4 loss. The team played in the 3rd and 4th final against Westlake Girls’; it was a tough game and unfortunately didn’t go their way; a close loss.  Overall Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora placed 4th in New Zealand; they had an amazing week and we are all so, so proud of their efforts.

Well done team!
