Senior Book Club
The Senior Book Club is a tight-knit group of the senior school’s most voracious bookworms.
Congregating every second Friday, our gatherings involved collectively analysing our latest reads. This tended to centre around describing (usually in great detail) the wonderful, the terrible, and the in-between of every facet of every book we chose to cast our hawk-like attention upon. We also welcomed other topics, such as food and the woes of high school. With members’ interests spanning across genres from the mystery novels of Agatha Christie exclusively, to the poetry of E.E. Cummings, The Senior Book Club was almost never at a loss for things to discuss, though we did occasionally enjoy the comfortable silence of sisterhood. We also enjoyed laughing uncontrollably at inside jokes only a few of us understood at any given time, including our teacher in charge, Ms Keates, with whom we occasionally reminisced about the books of her youth. We even had a splendid, laminated bookmark. While it seems reading is tragically becoming a dying art form, The Senior Book Club endeavoured to do our best to cultivate it like the precious flower it is. Forevermore, we shall continue to follow in the footsteps of Lemony Snicket, who once said, “Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.”
