Senior French students from around the city gathered together on Friday 11th June at the University of Canterbury for the annual NCEA workshop day.

We had a wonderful, fun day at the university, packed with immersion activities.

The day began with presentations from a representative of the High Commission of Canada, The Alliance Française and lecturers from UC. 

An ex-student of the University shared her passion for the language and culture, as well as outlining the opportunities which she had been able to embrace as a result of studying French.

Students then went off to NCEA workshops in mixed school groups, each led by a university student and French teacher. Workshops focussed on French immersion, resources on Canada and NCEA language skills.

A French treasure hunt around the campus was very competitive and the Year 13 students gained a prize for finishing in second place!

The afternoon session comprised of a second NCEA immersion workshop, building on the Canada resources. The final activities of the day were a Kahoot quiz in the auditorium with over 200 participants, followed by a group rendition of a dance to a song by a Canadian Group called "Coton Ouaté". 

Our thanks go to Eric Mouhica and Antonio Viselli from UC who put together the programme, organised all the students, teachers and participants, and created resources for the day. It was a fabulous experience for the students, who enjoyed connecting with other French learners from various high schools and the university.
