First XV Rugby Team
On 8th September the First XV rugby team flew to Palmerston North for rugby nationals. The top 4 girls' and the top 4 boys' school teams from around the country were competing for the National title.
On Friday our girls were up against a much bigger team from Manurewa. Our girls took on the challenge and a well-read intercept by Poppy Baxter in the opening minute resulted in a run-away try. Our team's skill and fitness saw them go on to win 39 - 5 and qualify for the final.
On Sunday our girls met MANUKURA in the final. The team went in knowing it was going to be a tougher game. Rain overnight made for slippery game conditions, a disadvantage to both teams who like to play a faster game. The first half didn't go well for Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora , going into half-time 14 - 0 down. The girls showed resilience and determination to come back from 19 - 0 down to draw the game 19 - 19. The draw means that Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora are shared National title holders and have the school name on the trophy for the first time.
The team should be proud of their accomplishment and they have upheld the school values both on and off the field throughout the season.
