Hearing And Vision Tests

According to KidsHealth, screening for some vision problems should have happened at Year 7-8 around 12 years of age.

Teens' eye health and close or distance vision changes, which has a huge impact on visual fatigue and the ability to access small print in novels, online and class whiteboards.

Hearing will not be checked at school, so visit your family doctor.

The cost of eye tests and glasses up to $280 may be applied for through Health and Disability MSD and be repaid. Optometrists such as OPSM or Specsavers may be free with AA membership or Health insurance.

Signs of vision or eye problems which require a full eye test:

  • A squint or lazy eye

  • Strong glasses needed at an early age

  • Premature birth

  • Developmental delay

  • Family history of diabetes or glaucoma
