Fashion Technology - Level 1

Qualification: NCEA Level 1

Entry requirements: None.

Content/Skills: Fashion Technology is a hands-on, creative subject that encourages ākonga to design and create fit-for-purpose outcomes that address a need or opportunity.

Ākonga will cultivate life-long practical skills and knowledge about materials, techniques, and processes. They will also develop an understanding of sustainable practices.

Field Trips: Tailored to the context students work within.

Course Costs: Please be aware that this course has a 'take home' component. By selecting this course you are agreeing to meet full costs for materials that are required. These costs are $80.00 which includes materials for exploring techniques and various sewing materials such as fabric paints, tracing paper, interfacing, calico fabric, yarns and thread. Ākonga will need to purchase their own materials for at least one project.

Assessment:

2 Internal Achievement Standards worth 12 credits

1 External Achievement Standard worth 4 credits

Where does it lead? NCEA Fashion Technology at Level 2 and Level 3. Careers/tertiary study with a design/problem solving focus such as a Fashion Designer, Interior Designer, Event Management, CAD Specialist, Fashion/Personal Stylist, Costume Designer, Wardrobe Manager, Product Designer, Fashion Merchandiser, Production, Fashion Buyer, Fashion Illustrator, Textiles Designer, Fashion Sales Representative, Pattern Maker, Fashion Writer/Photographer.
