Year 10 Junior Curriculum Project 2019

The Yearbook Reporting Team —

While most Year 10s were on camp during this time, the first two days of the JCP offered Year 10 a range of activities to participate in based on the UN Sustainability Goals. Below is a sample of some of those activities:

Community Christmas

The Year 10’s first activity was to make Christmas cards for people in the community who could benefit from some kind gestures around this time of year. Some people in the community aren't as fortunate to have loved ones to spend Christmas and New Year with, so we, as a school, set a goal to try and brighten up their holidays.

The Year 10s said they felt happy, joyful, helpful, generous and caring towards making people smile. They thought the people receiving these cards will be very loved because somebody had put time and effort into making them a special card. These people can be assured that people are thinking of them this Christmas.

“I think it’s an amazing idea of sharing the joy to other people that aren’t getting them around the world, that don't have many people to celebrate with, and it can make them feel joy and special.”

- Natasha

“I think it's a very kind and sweet idea, and whoever thought of this is a very smart person. It’s quite fun making Christmas cards and it makes me happy knowing someone will read them.”

-Thesara

“For the people that don’t have families, show appreciation for them.”

Orienteering

The Year 10s had lots of fun orienteering around Hagley Park. They had a set of clues and a map to try and find different places throughout the park. Then they had to answer questions about the UN Sustainability Goals from information posters hidden in these areas.

There were lots of interesting facts and information about the sustainability goals to find and the Year 10s really enjoyed walking around the park to find them. The Year 10s said it was nice to be outside and learning at the same time.

Scavenger Hunt

The Year 10s had a scavenger hunt activity where they went to Mona Vale and had to look for important objects such as statues and plants. They were put into groups and had a great time searching and taking photos of certain objects. This activity encouraged the girls to be outside and active whilst having fun.

Minecraft

On 3 December 2019 as part of the Junior Curriculum Project the Year 10s had the opportunity of doing Minecraft education. As a part of it, the main focus was building a rollercoaster and showcasing how Minecraft can not only be used for gaming but also as a learning tool for students. This gave the students the opportunity to have fun while also learning about the importance of looking at things differently.
