Gymnastic Success

Laura-Jean Peawini —

During the first week of the term 2 holidays, the New Zealand Gymnastics Nationals were held in Tauranga.

More than 900 gymnasts put their best performances forward in the quest for national titles. After months of training and qualification, the championships are a celebration of hard work and achievement, and an opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills and artistry in aerobics, men’s and women’s artistic, rhythmic, and trampoline gymnastics.

Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora had athletes representing Canterbury at this pinnacle event and some of our students experienced national success.

Natasha Flaszynski placed 2nd for Rhythmic level 10 in hoop, ball and ribbon, and second overall.

Liliana Gunther placed 1st for International 13-14 women and 1st for International 13-14 women Synchro trampoline. Cleo Pearce placed 2nd for National 17+ woman for trampoline and 3rd for National 17+ Double- Mini. Liliana then represented NZ against Australia in a Trans-Tasman Championships.

Jun McDonald placed 2nd for uneven bars for Womens Artistic Senior International and has now been selected to represent New Zealand and travel to Hungary this September to compete in one of two World Cups.
