CGHS Publication —

Once again Tarawhiri (Maori God of Weather) obliged us with great conditions. For those of you seasoned to this venue you can appreciate our relief when the day is pleasant for the athletes, officials and supporters.

The team once again performed well with stunning personal bests, cheering on their peers and screaming with excitement at 4x100m relays. The shared joy of competing and showcasing their talent after a season of dedicated training was a pleasure to see. It is this rangatiratanga not just in athletics but any sport that truly develops a student's capacity to step into a space that is full of challenges. A special thank you to the relay teams staying right until the end and the senior leaders that helped provide the support the juniors needed to be confident to represent our kura.

The top performances in each event qualified for a place in the South Island Championships. 13 of our placed athletes are competing in 28 events this weekend in Invercargill. Plus we have a U14 , U15 4x100m relay and a 4x400m Open relay. We wish the team every success as they travel to Invercargill to compete with the best athletes in Te Waipounamu.

Thank you to the parents for their continuing support from being a taxi driver, mentor, first aid specialist, packing numerous lunches and snacks, and being so open to welcome each other at our Christchurch Girls' High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora tent. I know a number of you are taking the opportunity to travel to Invercargill this weekend to support the team. Please make yourselves known to Bee (our manager) and spend some time with the team both on and off the track. It is a pleasure to weave whānau and school together in such a positive environment.
