CGHS Athletics Day

Emily Shaw —

On the 12th of March we held our school athletics at the new facility, Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub.

We were lucky to get some fantastic weather and had plenty of colour with some wonderfully creative House costumes. Everyone got involved and competed well, in both House and Championship events. We would like to recognise these girls who have been named our champions for 2019:

  • Under 14: 1st Alice Fissenden, 2nd Piper Evison, 3rd Izzi Leifi
  • Under 15: 1st Emma Parke, 2nd Meg Blanchfield, 3rd Scarlett Rutherford-Prince
  • Under 16: 1st Sophie Williamson, 2nd Rosie Trotter, 3rd Ella MacDonald
  • Over 16: 1st Lili Ovendale, 2nd Jaidyn Busch, 3rd Harriet Rowse

In the Junior House Relays:

1st Rolleston, 2nd Selwyn, 3rd Connon

And in the Senior House Relays:

1st Deans, 2nd Harper, 3rd Connon

The School vs Hostel Junior Relay was won by Acland, and the Senior Relay was won by the school.

Staff vs Prefects left the prefects in tears, as the staff took the win.

A special mention goes out to

  • Jaidyn Busch, breaking the Over 16 Shot Put record by throwing 13.95m
  • Rosie Trotter, who broke the Under 16 400m record, setting a new time of 59.60s
  • Izzi Leifi, breaking the U14 shot put in her throw of 11.03m

The Canterbury Finals are to be held this Saturday the 23rd of March at Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub, so feel free to come along and support our girls in action!
