Our CGHS mountain bike team has 4 riders. The team competes on Wednesdays in the Christchurch Schools Singletrack Cross Country racing, held at Halswell Quarry.

This year there were only three weeks of racing out of the potential five, as Covid decided to show up and the team did not compete in Level 2. The last event of Wednesday racing was Canterbury Secondary Schools XC Mountain Bike Championships and all the athletes did amazingly well. 

My highlight was watching Zoe Trolove and Alice Barnes go up on the podium. It is so awesome to see girls out there shredding. Alice came 1st in Under 14, Zoe came 2nd in Under 17 and myself, Elise, came 3rd in Open women’s. 

It was a great 3 weeks of racing and the results were pretty good as well. I can’t wait till next year and hope to see some new faces trying out this cool sport.
