National Schools’ Pride Week
Schools’ Pride Week is very important to stand beside Rainbow ākonga and staff in the school/kura and highlight values such as inclusion, diversity, and acceptance.
We celebrated Schools’ Pride Week Aotearoa from 12–16 June 2023 in the library. The celebration was aimed to acknowledge Rainbow identities, build Rainbow ākonga relationships with their school and peers, and raise awareness to minimise bullying to create a safer place for Rainbow ākonga. Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora library committee and Saga committee brought colours of pride into the library and organised several activities.
Student librarians organised bracelet making activities on 13 June 2023 at lunch time and enjoyed making different pride flags in the bracelet. They made bracelets for themselves, their friends, sisters, and mothers. The English Department came to encourage them and participate in the event. A big mihi to the department for bringing happiness in the library. A heartfelt thanks to the Saga committee who were present at the event and facilitated the event with enthusiasm.
