Football Tournament in Dunedin

Katie Blackburn —

The Christchurch Girls’ High School | Te Kura o Hine Waiora 1st XI Football team recently showcased their skills at the NZ Secondary Schools Lotto Sportswear Tournament held in Dunedin.

Our journey began with a stellar performance on day one, securing a comfortable 6-0 victory against St Hilda's College and a solid 4-0 win over Roncalli College. The momentum continued on day two with another impressive 6-0 win against Dunstan High School, which ranked us second in our pool. To advance, we needed to top our group, but a tough 1-1 draw against Bethlehem College meant we fell short of the final round. As devastated as we were by this setback, the team demonstrated incredible resilience and determination finishing strong with a 3-0 victory over Marian College and a 3-1 win against Wakatipu High School to secure 5th place overall.

Although it's always tough when results are taken from goals for and against, coming away from the tournament undefeated is a testament to the team's hard work and dedication and is something the team should be very proud of.

Congratulations to the 1st XI for an impressive tournament!
