Christine O’Neill —

This newsletter is to update you on confirmed final dates for the end of year for our senior students finishing classes.

We have made some adjustments after returning from lockdown based around a range of complexities. Based on these, we have revised the finish date for seniors, moving it back from 16 November to Thursday 11 November (the Thursday before Show Day).

This will provide three uninterrupted weeks of timetabled classes in Term 4 for staff and students and then we will complete all of the necessary end of year activities in week 4 while still running classes.

Finishing senior students on 11 November gives students a week of personalised study leave prior to the NZQA examinations while still ensuring some extra settled learning in Term 4.

Senior Prizegiving is confirmed at 6pm on the the evening of 9 November at the Christchurch Boys’ High School auditorium.

Term 4 will look like the following:

Weeks 1 - 3 (18 October – 5 November) - all senior students in all timetabled classes

Week 4 (8 November – 11 November) (12 November is Show Day):

  • Monday - Timetabled classes including the Y11 Digital DCAT exam (1.00pm - 4.00pm)
  • Tuesday - Timetabled classes P1- 4 (An early finish to allow some time for prizegiving set up and for staff & students to have a break before the 6.00pm event at CBHS)
  • Wednesday - Timetabled classes but with Pink Day taking place. Y13 Digital DCAT exam (1.00pm - 4.00pm)
  • Thursday as follows:

· Period 1 Y13 NZQA briefing and time with Dean. Timetabled classes for all other year groups.

· Period 2 Full School Assembly followed by Y13 morning tea and Y13 release

· Period 3 Y12 NZQA briefing and Y12 release. Timetabled classes for Y9 – 11

· Period 4 Y11 NZQA briefing and Y11 release. Timetabled classes for Y9 & 10

· Period 5 Timetabled classes for Y9 and 10

· Y12 Digital DCAT exam (1.00pm - 4.00pm)

For Year 13 parents and students, our Leavers’ dinner is scheduled for 22 October. This will not be able to proceed if current Level 2 restrictions are still in place. There are also no other available postponement dates in Term 4 for venues able to cope with the size of our event. We will advise further on this but will likely need to make a call on this before the end of this term. The same issue will apply to our scheduled senior prizegiving but we can make a call on this very close to the day. I know it will be extremely disappointing if events cannot go ahead but we cannot control Alert Levels. We will do our very best for our senior students around a prizegiving if we are unable to share it with parents physically present. Meanwhile we can all collectively hope for the best.
