South Island Junior Netball Tournament

Robin Brown —

In the first week of the school holidays (3 – 5 July) our talented Year 9A and Year 10A netball teams represented Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora at the Junior South Island’s held at Hagley courts.

Both teams stayed together for the duration of the tournament at a motel in Christchurch to get their total tournament experience.

96 teams from throughout the South Island were competing in this very competitive tournament, with 32 teams in both the Year 10 and Year 9 grades. Both teams were joined by players from the respective Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora B teams to enable players to be rotated as three games were played each day.

Results for our teams were:

St Andrew’s College won the Year 9 grade and Columba College won the year 10 grade.

Thanks to Rose Lynn and Amelie Martin who both umpired for our teams throughout the tournament.

Our teams had a fun three days of positive netball experience and were well supported by their respective coaches, both past pupils of Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora, Hannah Wotherspoon (Year 9 team) and Kate Hastings (Year 10 team).

Well done everyone!
