Swimming 2019

Abbie Richardson —

Over the course of the 2019 swimming season, we had some incredible results from the Girls’ High Swim Team.

Although we had no swimmers going away to South Island Secondary Schools or National Secondary Schools in Hamilton, the CGHS swimming sports and Canterbury Championships were done extremely well.

In our school swimming sports, Jenny Song took U14 Champion, while Bonnie Smith took Junior Champion. Caitlin Close claimed both Intermediate Champion and Trophy for Most Points in Open Events. Abbie Richardson won the Senior Champion and also the Senior Cup for the 50m Freestyle. She was also awarded the most helpful swimmer at our sports prizegiving. The interhouse relay was won by Harper house, and the Inter House Points Trophy was awarded to Sheppard.

At the Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Swimming Championships, Caitlin Close took 1st place for both Open 200m Individual Medley and U16 100m Freestyle. Jenny Song placed second in the U14 50m Butterfly. CGHS also took three third places in the 50m Breaststroke (U14 - Isabella Parmenter, U15 Hannah Ferguson and U16 Nell Penberthy). We had our U14 Freestyle Relay coming in second at Canterbury Champs as well as our U15 Freestyle Relay taking 3rd place.

Well done to everyone who participated in both Canterbury and School Swimming sports.
