Triathlon 2019

Olivia Kikstra —

We have had a very strong multisport team in 2019 that have gained medals at both national and provincial levels.

The first schools race of the season was the Canterbury Triathlon Championships at the beginning of the year. This race is great for encouraging everyone to give it a go, whether you are in a team or an individual. The U16s dominated the field with medals in the individual race from both Paris Carroll and Pixie Cockerill as well as claiming gold in the U16 teams race.

The next race on the calendar was the National Secondary Schools Triathlon in New Plymouth where Olivia Kikstra and Pixie Cockerill competed.  Olivia Kikstra gained 4th in the U19 females and Pixie Cockerill placed 8th in the U16 girls.

We had a break over winter and then it was time for the Canterbury Secondary Schools Duathlon Champs that took place in Term 3. We had lots of amazing teams and individuals who put in their all and it sure came out in the results.  Pixie Cockerill gained 2nd place in the U16 individual race, Olivia Kikstra 2nd and Eva Watson 4th in the U19 individual race, 1st in the U16 girls teams race and bronze in the U19 girls teams race.

Throughout this year I have been incredibly proud of each and everyone's achievements and the resilience and determination shown by the girls. I hope to see you all on the start line for as many races as you can next year and welcome anybody who may be considering giving triathlons or duathlons a go!
