Peter Sawyer —

As I write this I am able to see blue sky and daffodils and with an increasing number of warmer days there is a feeling that we are now on the way out of winter and soon the Hagley Park cherry blossoms will be in full bloom.

Having said that I fully expect to have to eat my words when the next southerly front comes through. The beginning of spring does indicate that we are now entering the busy ‘end of year’ period and we are planning for next year. Years 11 - 13 have only a little over seven school weeks until the NZQA exams! Current Year 9 -12 students should have already submitted their options for 2024 - if they are yet to do this they should see Mrs Peawini as soon as possible next week. We have also already completed the enrolment process for next year’s Year 9 and our roll numbers are looking very healthy.

While we may be planning for 2024 we still have a number of significant happenings this year and this term. Next week we have students representing us in various sports from Invercargill to Palmerston North. Football, Basketball, Netball, Hockey, Equestrian and Rock Climbing teams are all participating in Winter Tournament week. Our First XV Rugby team, following their success in the South Island Championship, are travelling to Palmerston North to defend their national title. On Friday they play their semi final opponents, Manakura, the same team they drew the final with last year.

Following winter tournament week we have our school exams. These exams not only provide feedback and a practice opportunity in exam conditions, they are also a derived grade opportunity and for Years 11 and 12 the results play a part in 2024 course eligibility. All students will receive information on exam times and dates closer to the event. I would encourage you to support your ākonga in their organisation and study in the lead up to, and during the exams.

Have a great weekend, enjoy the spring weather.

Ngā mihi nui
