Coronavirus may have done it’s best to hold Show Choir back this year, but despite this we have managed to really grow in both numbers and vocal ability as our teachers Miss Morrison and Miss Tinworth have taught us superbly. It has been another year filled with new friends, laugher and teamwork in our choir whanau, and we’ve taken every opportunity to perform where we can with the events that were not cancelled.

The CGHS Variety Show was one of these events and gave us the opportunity to show our family and friends the repertoire we’ve been working on throughout the year; You Can’t Stop The Beat (from ‘Hairspray’), We Are The Champions (Queen), and Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen). As always we combined our singing with dance moves, and a shoutout goes to our wonderful student choreographer for the year, Jennifer Morrison, who taught us all well. These songs all reflect the musical theatre, modern and upbeat vibe of Show Choir and we loved singing all of them. We especially enjoyed channeling our inner champions!

We have high hopes for next year and are crossing our fingers that the Voices Festival, the YMCA-run high school choir competition, is back on again next year for us to perform in as this is usually a huge highlight of the year and a great way to meet other choirs from around the city. If you would like to join us please don’t hesitate to get involved next year! We welcome everyone who wants to have a good time regardless of singing/dance experience - all you need to have is a positive attitude. The more the merrier! :)

On a personal note from us as Show Choir leaders, it has been so cool to see so many more students joining us this year and we have loved building relationships with you all and watching you grow as people and performers. Show Choir really is one of the highlights of our week and make coming to school on Monday so much more worth it! You are all such special people and the energy at each rehearsal is awesome to see. Best of luck to Kate and Charlotte for leading the choir next year - we know you guys are going to do a great job.
