Waitaha Secondary Schools’ Kapa Haka Competitions 2019

Adrienne Huia, HOD Te Reo/Tikanga —

Yasmin Sadlier and Amiria Tikao recently competed at the Canterbury regional kapa haka competitions, where they won several first placings and were placed 3rd overall.

The Waitaha Secondary Schools’ Kapa Haka Competitions were held at the Aurora Center on Saturday, August 03.

Yasmin and Amiria were part of a combined school group that also had students from St Andrews College, Christchurch Boys’ High School, Cashmere High School and Linwood College. The group is based at Linwood College and is run under the leadership and guidance of Manu Paringatai. They were fortunate to have a team of fantastic young tutors who come from various senior kapa haka groups. We are very thankful to their tutors for the time and energy they put in to helping the group reach such a high standard.

Well done to both girls for their outstanding performances on the day. The result of many hours of intensive training, dedication and a true showcase of their passion for kapa haka.
