Message from our Principal

Helen Armstrong - Principal —

Tēnā koutou katoa parents, caregivers and whānau

Last weekend our rowing U18 coxed eight made history winning the Levin 75th Jubilee Cup, the most coveted race for the girls 2024 Maadi Regatta.  As the U18 crew put on the accelerator and took the lead at the first 500m mark, a shout of ‘wow’ was heard from the commentator in the background of the livestream coverage. Coaches, teachers, parents, and students had travelled to Twizel to support the squad and witness this piece of history for Christchurch Girls' High School/Te Kura o Hine Waiora as the crew took Gold – an unbelievable achievement. Congratulations also go to the U18 Novice coxed eight who took the Silver Medal in the novice race the day before.

Congratulations also go to our Premier Volleyball Team who came 2nd at Nationals and to our B team who finished 19th out of 103 teams in New Zealand, becoming the top B team in the country and winning Division 2.

A huge thank you to all of our coaches, managers, parents, and supporters who work hard to ensure students have the best opportunities to succeed.

Our students are involved in so many different activities in and out of school. Please let the office know if they have had success at any out of school events, and would be willing to share the details so we can celebrate it.

This morning I met some of our Boarding Parents at the Boarding Breakfast for Year 9 parents. It is always hard for families to find time to connect with school and I appreciated the effort made by them to attend the breakfast, and I enjoyed the opportunity to meet with them.

Next week we will be celebrating Academic achievement at the Scholars’ Assembly, and we are looking forward to celebrating student success and meeting the parents of the recipients at the event. If you daughter is receiving an award, you should have received an invitation.

Wishing you all the best for the long Easter weekend.

Ngā mihi nui
