Fencing Success

Millie Sarjeant —

Over the past month, Christchurch Girls’ High School/ Te Kura o Hine Waiora students, Millie Sarjeant (Year 13) and Amie Callaghan (Year 12) have been competing in Christchurch and Auckland in various fencing competitions and receiving some amazing results

Canterbury Secondary Schools took place in Christchurch at the end of February, Millie took out first place, gaining a gold medal and Amie gained 6th place. The New Zealand National Junior Champs was at the start of March in Auckland. 

The girls fenced some of the best women in the country, competing against people up to 20 years old. In the individuals, Millie earned a bronze medal coming 3rd place and Amie coming 11th in the country. Both fencers were selected to be in the Mid-South (Christchurch) A team, fencing together to gain a silver medal, congratulations to both these girls. 

Mid-South (Christchurch) Secondary Schools was last weekend where Amie and Millie shared 3rd equal place, both obtaining another bronze medal.
