Rowing 2019

Eva Watson —

Christchurch Girls High’s 2018-2019 rowing campaign was one of the most successful to date.

Our close-knit squad of 58 created a fun and hard-working team environment. At the beginning of the season, we welcomed a new head coach, David Lindstrom to join the team. Dave introduced many qualities and attitudes that saw a great response on and off the water as Christchurch Girls' High School quickly became the rowing school to beat. Throughout the season the squad trained and worked hard at every training set by the coaches to refine our strength and technique. By early March the squad was looking very sharp before Maadi cup, coming home from the 3 day South Island Secondary Schools Regatta with 6 medals and 14 A finals.

Maadi cup was a very busy week that involved tough competition and tight turn around times but our hard work paid off and the squad came away with 6 medals, making Maadi cup 2019 the most successful in Girls' High history. A huge congratulations to the 4 silver medalist crews (U18 4, U17 4, U17 8, Novice 4), 2 bronze medalist crews (U16 8, U16 4). Every girl in the squad had a great contribution to these results and the unity of the team is something I will never forget.
