Shadow Tech Day

Midha, Zhi and Zara —

On the 7th of August, a few students from the year 11 Digital Technologies class had the opportunity to visit and explore Dynamics Control on behalf of Shadow Tech Day.

The overall experience was enjoyable and eye-opening. During the day, the staff answered any questions we had regarding their work. We also had the privilege to test one of their products and explained its purpose and production. Our favourite part of the visit was being educated about the various types of Engineering professions, and how they work in the real world. Through this experience, we had a clearer understanding and idea about possibilities for the future.

ShadowTech Day helped us with our understanding of different careers in Engineering. Before the trip, most of us had a vague understanding of what Engineering was. Usually, the typical picture of Engineering is all about buildings and bridges. However, after the trip to Dynamics Control, we learned that there was a wider variety of Engineering careers. Careers such as Software Engineering, System Engineering, Embedded Engineering, and so much more. Thanks to the opportunity ShadowTech granted us, Engineering was no longer a foreign career for us.

We also met an ex Girls High Student from 2014 who Mrs Nicholls remembered and we also liked the fact that over half the staff at Dynamic Controls are female whereas normally in a Tech environment the numbers (we were told) are usually much fewer.

We hope the school will build on this relationship with Dynamic Controls to allow other students the opportunity to experience a Tech career as we have."
