The first annual NZ National Dutch Speech competition is happening online during Dutch week.

The competition will have two categories one in the Dutch language and the other in English, with both competitions sharing the topic "Being Dutch in New Zealand". 

This is a unique aspect of the competition because Dutch does not just relate to the Dutch language, but also to Dutch people and they want to be inclusive for the many potential entrants who may have only one Dutch parent or potentially even one Dutch grandparent, and who may not have grown up speaking Dutch at home.

The competition is supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands and they are excited to receive confirmation that Te Tari Matawaka Office of Ethnic Communities will also be funding this event. 

The event is run by the Federation of New Zealand Netherlands Societies Inc and will be part of Dutch Week 2021.
