Netball 2019

CGHS —

2019 was another successful year for Netball at CGHS.

Twenty-one teams played in the Saturday Club competition and also in the Wednesday Schools’ competition; the Senior A team played in the Tuesday Premier 2 grade and the Wednesday Supernet competition.

All teams had a successful season with special mention to the following:

Senior A – won Supernet for the first time since 1993 and were runners up in the Premier 2 club grade.O team (year 9 A) – 1st Year 9 Div 1 (Wednesday) and 1st U14 Div 1 (Saturday)J team (year 10 A) - 2 nd Junior Div 1 (Wednesday) and 2nd U15 Div 1 (Saturday)E team - 2nd U17 Div 1 (Saturday)I team – 2nd U17 Div 2(Saturday)K team - 2nd Junior Div 1 sect 2 (Wednesday)N team - 3rd Junior division 4 (Wednesday)

The following players were Christchurch Netball Centre representatives:

Under 19 – Charlotte Knight, Shana AliUnder 17 Red – Katarina Cox-Winiata,Under 17 Black – Bella ListerUnder 15 Red – Estella Wallace,Under 15 Black - Sarah Smith,Under 14 Red – Madi Smith, Angela Reupena

Angela awarded CNC Team Contribution/ Leadership award

Under 14 White – Sophie McDonald, Amy Rivett, Holly Campbell, Kate McConchie

At SISS Tournaments our school featured strongly.

Year 9 A team placed 2nd in the Year 9 grade at the SISS Junior Tournament.

Year 10 A placed 2nd in the Year 10 grade at the SISS Junior Tournament Placing. They also won the Team Sportsmanship award.


Senior A won the Senior SISS Tournament; this was the first time in 51 years of this tournament hat CGHS has won! The team also won the goal differential trophy.

Charlotte Knight and Shana Ali were named as talented players at this tournament.

The Senior A team then competed in the Nationals Secondary Schools’ tournament held in

Nelson in October - Sixteen schools from around New Zealand attended; our team came 8th and were the top South Island school.

Umpiring

It was great to have a number of umpires regularly umpiring each Saturday as part of our CGHS club umpires and also with the Christchurch Netball Centre white umpires.

Ruby Lange, Libby Stead, Hannah Wotherspoon, Hayley Campbell, Hannah Sherwood andBrie Cox who umpired for our school at tournaments.Club umpires were Ruby Lange, Libby Stead, Amber Houston, Katarina Cox-Winiata, HarrietWillis, Brie Cox, Madeline Harrison, Sophie Fitchett, Danika Johns, Sophia Park, Grace Foley,Annabelle Kelley and Piper Evison.

CGHS was awarded the CNC club contribution to Umpiring Trophy this year.

Club Awards this year were awarded to:

Team Contribution to club – Senior A team

Amongst the members of their team they have 3 umpires, 4 coaches, 2 committee members helped at fundraiser.

Valuable Club Contribution – Hannah Sherwood

Hannah is a playing member of the Senior C team, she has co coached our L team this season, she umpires, and is a committee member, she contributes to all aspects of the club.

Player / Umpire – Libby Stead

Libby played for our Senior B team this year and has continued to umpire for our club as well as being a white umpire and usually umpiring another 2-3 games on Saturdays.

Player / Coach – R Team coaches Caitlin Maule and Lauren Moore. Super organised and had the team functioning very well on Wednesdays in their absence. Very committed to their roles as coaches, excellent communication to parents and players. Always had the players best interest at heart. A great season, just missing out on the finals.

Coaching Excellence – Senior A coaches Georgia McRae/ Rosie Stewart. The dynamic duo reunited this year to coach our Senior team, the results speak for themselves on their ability as coaches, Runners up Prem 2, Winners Supernet, Winners South Islands first time in 51 years, 8 th placing at Nationals.

Rata Foundation Team of The Year – Senior A The A team has gone from strength to strength this year, having an outstanding season, winning the South Islands for the first time in half a century and then an awesome 8th placing at Nationals. Congratulations to you all on an amazing season.
