International Week Fun

Megan Kong —

Last week students got to enjoy some fantastic international activities organised by our Global Relations Group as part of our annual International week celebrations.

Kia ora, Bonjour, Ciao, Konnichiwa, Nǐn hǎo, Namaste, Goddag, Annyeong haseyo and hello to everyone.

Last week from 24th to 28th August, our school celebrated Annual International Week and the Global Relations Committee organised various events across the week in order to celebrate along with the entire kura.

Every break 1 during the week, we watched RRR in the PAC. RRR is an Oscar winning movie that shows the friendship between an officer and a revolutionary during the 1920’s.

On Monday break 2 we had the amazing Hannah and her team from BobaLab. They made us Passion Boba Tea, Mango Boba Tea, Berry Nebula, some Milk Teas along with their handcrafted coconut jelly and boba and we also had Master Kim come from Jeongmu to teach us Taekwondo in the gym.

On Tuesday break 2 we had Suji come in from Nolza Studio who performed some stunning K-POP dances to a song called Super Shy by News Jeans.

On Wednesday break 2 we again had Master Kim come in and we also had a quiz happening at the PAC during that time.

On Thursday break 2 we again had Suji and finally, to end the week in a highlight we had 6 food trucks such as Mukja, Jaeju, Riri, Pepe and Pretzel box come in to feed us their delicacies.

But I would say that the overall highlight would definitely be the assembly that the committee hosted on Wednesday. The committee members (Jiya, Ursula and Ilona) talked about what the Global Relations Group means to them and how it has helped them during their school journey. We also had a guest speaker from CBHS, a year 12 International student from Vietnam, Kha, who spoke about his experiences as an international student. A video also played at the assembly which showed us a range of students that greeted each other in different languages. Finally, Kotomi Ishida, one of our International students, spoke about her experiences and the interesting things that she has learnt during her journey in Aotearoa.

We would like to thank everyone who took part in decorating the school for the week, taking part in all the activities that were set across the week, and most importantly for giving us the support and encouragement in order to understand, appreciate and embrace each other’s culture.
