Year 12 Geography visits the Christchurch Police Station

CGHS Publication —

At the end of last term the Year 12 Geography class visited the Christchurch police station as part of their study on the geographic patterns of crime.

The girls heard from females working in the intel and communications departments as well as from a front line officer. Students learnt how crime data is collected and used to allocate police resources around the city as well as what it is like to work in the different areas of the police. After this they had a tour of the new police building on Lichfield street which included the communications room where all emergency calls are taken and camera surveillance of the city occurs. It was interesting to see how all emergency departments such as Ambulance and Fire are now working physically close to each other.

Many thanks to the Christchurch Police for hosting us, in particular Mr John Robinson for organising such a valuable visit and Mrs O'Callagahan for accompanying us.
